The first person to introduce me to Portland Poetry Slam was Brit Shostak, one of the best performing poets I know, who I met in Phoenix almost a decade ago and who told me great things about the slam. A few years later, when I first got to Portland in 2013, I got to experience the event myself. In the years since I've heard incredible poets, local and visiting, perform at Portland Poetry Slam. I got to see three or four venues that the slam called home, met old and new friends there. It was also the place where I started reading my poetry out loud to more than two-three people in the room. So I am all sorts of excited about doing a feature there this coming Sunday. Come out, read your poetry at the open mic or the slam and I'll read you a few poems too. Let's do this!

Come to a beautiful book store on Mississippi Avenue and enjoy hearing poetry from four poets: Sherri Levine, Liz Nakazawa, Rebecca Smolen and myself.
It's the Super Special Anniversary Show of Comedy vs. Tragedy. Come see nine performers—three poets, three musicians and three comedians—do their thing on stage set on top of cider kegs. I'm one of the poets. Oh, and it is a competition. You get to decide the winner! It'll be a fun night.
